Encourage Yourself

It’s going on the sixth week of my exercising and thankfully, I have dropped 7 pounds. Now, my guess is – if I could only leave the sweets out of my diet – I could easily drop several more pounds. But I’m encouraged anyway for the few pounds that I have lost!

Do you ever feel like, when you finally put your mind to something and set a goal, something always get in the way?  For me, I’ve never been a big sweet eater but lately, I can’t stop eating the sweets! It seems as though others for example my spouse, son, and other family members are no help in encouraging me to lose the weight and leave the sweets along. Of course, it’s really not their problem but it would help a great deal to have their support. So now … I have taken a stand to Encourage Myself and you should do the same. Don’t rely on others to encourage you – do it yourself. No matter what goals you are trying to reach – whether it’s starting your own business, obtaining a degree, getting out of debt, or even searching for a new job, Encourage Yourself. Don’t let anything or anybody stop you from reaching your goals not even you! Sometimes we are our own biggest hinder in obtaining and reaching our goals – but we’ll save that story for another blog!

I don’t know what all being a wife and mother truly entails but I believe we must exhibit one important characteristic of David. David knew how to encourage himself….he knew how to trust God when he couldn’t trace Him. In life’s busyness, we can’t hear ourselves think let alone God’s voice. We don’t even understand what’s going on with us sometimes because we are so busy doing, doing, doing for others. Sometimes, we get so busy and caught up in day to day stuff that we lose sight of our own goals and desires . It’s was so easy for me to get comfortable and content. I think taking time for yourself and setting personal goals outside of family, church, work is so important for a woman (in particular). I admire Michelle Obama’s drive to stay in shape, be the best wife, be the best mother and the best (and stylish) first lady but yet, I believe she learned that in order to be the best at the most important things in her life, she had to take care of self. Taking care of self whatever that means to you should be defined, designed and delivered by YOU!!!

  2. As life brings so many challenges each day – it’s hard to find someone who can encourage you- simply because they are facing as many challenges as you are and maybe even more. So it’s imperative to be able to encourage yourself. This blog has given me a tool that I can use and that’s how to encourage myself. I’m going to do just that!
    Thanks for this blog!!!

There is a song that says “Encourage Yourself in the Lord” My oldest daughter loves this song. Depression is very high among women, especially single mothers as myself, we don’t always have someone there in the home to say “good job” or simply say, you rest I got this. But if you allow yourself some time each day just to reflect and look at your children (if you have them) and you can see the fruits of your labor. Many times we down ourselves and think my like should be or could be better, but I am learning that Lords has a time and place for everything. If there is anything you would like to change or improve, YOU CAN, JUST ASK THE MASTER!

I totally agree. We can have whatever we want but we have to ask and believe.
